I just wanted to wrap this blog up officially. I hope that the stuff I posted here was helpful for those of you who used it. I hope that we all pass and we can get back together in the fall for biosystematics and ecology. Let's all have a wonderful summer break (well sorta for those of us taking summer classes) and be ready to buckle down for fall. I want to thank everyone who helped contribute to the information posted here, and for those of you who texted, called, and generally pestered me to update for each class. Sometimes I wondered if it was only for me, but a lot of people did mention that they used the recordings, notes, and reviews.
Also, I'm putting a bug in your ear for a little trip coming up spring break 2013. Let's see how many of us can get in on the study abroad to the Galapagos Islands next spring break! Wouldn't that be fun? I'm totally going!
Well have a great summer, and if you need me, email veebs@me.com
Take care!
Your faithful blogstress,
Val

Cell Bio Review Notes 4/16 and 4/18
So I'm trying to come up with a proper strategy to study for the cell bio exam on Friday. I've tried all of my favorite techniques, and I'm still not performing like I'd like on Dr. Stokes' tests. So I'm going back and listening to the lectures again and trying to jot down the important highlights. Thing about Dr. Stokes, you never know which thing he wants to highlight. So I'm pretty much outlining his lecture. It's probably a lot deeper than the notes I take during class. But it's an intensive process, so it will not be quick. I've gotten 4/16 and 18 done, and I'll post them as I finish. But tonight, I'm going to bed. Tomorrow I'll get going on it as fast as I can. I hope this helps! <3

Study Review for Genetics Exam
I've been typing my sweet little fingers off all morning so that I can help everyone out. Here's the review and key for the cumulative part of the final tomorrow. I'm about to get to work on the non-cumulative part in just a second. Good luck! **Just wanted to add that I created this study guide with the information from previous tests. I wasn't able to transfer all of the questions, particularly the ones with images that I cannot copy. So you'll have to look over your old exams for the questions with the images. Also, again, let me say that this is not meant to be comprehensive, and while I hope it helps you, I cannot guarantee that this is what will be on the exam. It's just a helpful study guide that I hope works for all of us! Good luck!**

I only recorded the lecture today during Cell Bio because I was reviewing for the Genetics exam during class. I know, shame on me, but I return the favor regularly during Genetics for Cell Bio as well. And there is nothing from Genetics today because we had the exam. Which I hope I totally owned. Anyway, here it is!

For you late-night procrastinating losers... (YEAH MYSELF INCLUDED)
Here are some last-minute study tools that you may find helpful. Of course, all of you have probably been studying your heads off and you're having a nice wind-down before a good night of sleep. For the other 23.5 people in the class, this stuff's for you. (and ME)
If you don't have Mental Case, it kinda sucks to be you. But here's a study archive file of flashcards for the vocabulary part of the test.

Here's a study review that I've made for chapters 8-12. Keys are being added as they are completed. (THANKS JENN!)

Some Study Help
Here's a Mental Case study archive for the genetics exam. If you have a Mac or an iOS device such as an iPod Touch, iPad, or iPhone, you can download Mental Case. MC is a flash card (and much more really) application that is very helpful for studying. So if you are able to use it, I'm sharing a study archive that the lovely Jenn Joiner (aka jennjoinerane) put together to study for the genetics exam this week. Enjoy!

Vocabulary Review for Genetics
I always study my vocabulary by giving myself a test. I didn't do so well on last week's vocab test because I didn't take enough time to study the large list of words we had from chapter 4. So I'm going to start adding the review that I do on the blog here just in case it might help someone else. The first page has all the words with the definitions, and the second page is a blank "test" with just the definitions and a place to fill in the word. I hope I have all the words from the lectures! And if I'm MIA on Wednesday between Genetics and Lab, it's because I'm trying to do better. :)

Also, I use Mental Case on my Mac/iPad for flash card review, I'm going to try to include the file here just in case someone wants to use them as well.

*There are two separate audio files because my pen decided to stop recording at some point and I am not sure exactly how much is missing. But when I noticed I turned it back on. I also apologize for the big goofy mess at the beginning of the note, I skipped a section on my drawing and had to do-over.

The Beginning
Hi everyone!
If you've been linked to this blog it's because you're in the same Cell Biology class and/or Genetics class as I am this semester. I have a smartpen that (most of the time) records the lecture and my handwritten notes in each class. I have shared them with some other students this semester, but I thought I'd make it more centrally located so that anyone who wants to use this resource will be able to do so. I do have the capability to convert my handwritten notes to typed text, but for the most part I don't do that because it doesn't recognize some of my handwritten words and I have to do a lot of editing. If you're having trouble reading one of the handwritten notes, let me know and I will either translate or transcribe it for you.
The recordings come from my smartpen, and I find them very useful, especially in Dr. Stokes' Cell Bio class. The only drawback is that the pen is in my hand, so if I'm suffering from a cold or if I'm eating my breakfast in class you have to tolerate my many personal noises (I promise you they are not as annoying as a certain person who makes VERY personal noises in lab). There are a couple of recordings that are really obnoxious in that regard. Also, any comments I make or questions I ask, or wrong answers I reply with are recorded. So I sound like a perfect dunce. But it's all learning. I just wanted to give everyone proper warning. I plan to organize this according to class date so if anyone needs to go back and find something it will be easy to do. Leave me a comment or send me an email if you have any questions or need something in particular. I won't make you a sandwich, but I hope this does help you study for these classes.
*I wanted to also add the note that sometimes my recordings are corrupted on the pen. I'm not sure what's causing it, but there are a few days that the recording didn't work. Usually the written notes are not affected. I will note on those dates when it happens. There are a couple of other students who record the lectures as well, so maybe we can pool our resources and replace what I'm missing.*
**I occasionally miss class, if that happens, there won't be a post for that day, but I'll see if I can't find a collaborator who might share on here as well.**
